What is Bio Technology?
Biotechnology is a field of applied biology that involves the use of living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology, medicine and other fields requiring bio-products. Biotechnology also utilizes these products for manufacturing purpose. Modern use of similar terms includes genetic engineering as well as cell- and tissue culture technologies. The concept encompasses a wide range of procedures (and history) for modifying living organisms according to human purposes — going back to domestication of animals, cultivation of plants, and "improvements" to these through breeding programs that employ artificial selection and hybridization. By comparison to biotechnology, bioengineering is generally thought of as a related field with its emphasis more on higher systems approaches (not necessarily altering or using biological materials directly) for interfacing with and utilizing living things.

The Advanced Standing arrangement between IIHS and Box Hill Institute-TAFE allows you to complete the first year of your Diploma of Laboratory Technology- Specialize in Biotechnology Program at IIHS with a considerable cost saving and move on to Box Hill Institute-Australia for the completion of the final year.
Once the student completes the final year of the Diploma in Australia student will have the opportunity for opt for the associate degree in Biotechnology or Bachelor of Biotechnology & Innovation.      

Entry Requirements

  • Students can enter to the program on completion of G.C.E O/L or G.C.E A/L examination.
  • English Language – Credit for G.C.E O/L
  • IELTS score of 5.5 for the final year at Box Hill
